Ausangate Trek 4 Days Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Tinqui - Pucacocha

We will begin the Ausangate Trek by departing from Cusco at 5:00 am, in private transportation. We will drive for approximately 3 hours to reach Tinqui, a small town located at an altitude of 3,800 meters.

After arriving in Tinqui, we will have breakfast and meet our trekking team, including the guide, cook, and support staff. We will then begin our hike towards Upis, a gradual ascent that will take approximately 4 hours, covering a distance of 8 kilometers.

Along the way, we will enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, as well as passing through traditional Andean villages. We will stop for lunch at a scenic spot along the trail and have some time to rest and refuel.

After lunch, we will continue hiking towards Upis, our campsite for the first night. Upis is located at an altitude of 4,400 meters and offers breathtaking views of Ausangate Mountain. We will arrive at our campsite in the late afternoon and have time to rest and acclimatize to the altitude. Dinner will be served, prepared by our cook, and we will spend the night in our tents, ready for the next day’s adventure.

Day 2Upis - Pucacocha

We will wake up early at 6:00 am and have breakfast prepared by our cook. We will then begin our hike towards Pucacocha, a distance of approximately 14 kilometers and an elevation gain of 800 meters.

The trek will take us past stunning alpine lakes, glaciers, and snow-capped peaks, including the majestic Ausangate Mountain. We will cross two high mountain passes, Arapa (4,850 meters) and Apuchata (4,900 meters), offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

After reaching the second pass, Apuchata, we will begin our descent towards our campsite at Pucacocha, located at an altitude of 4,400 meters. The descent will take approximately 2 hours, covering a distance of 3 kilometers.

Upon reaching our campsite, we will have lunch and spend the afternoon resting and enjoying the stunning scenery. Dinner will be served by our cook, and we will spend the night in our tents, ready for the next day’s adventure.

Day 3Pucacocha - Ananta

We will wake up early at 6:00 am and have breakfast prepared by our cook. We will then begin our hike towards Ananta, covering a distance of approximately 16 kilometers.

The trail will take us through a diverse range of landscapes, including Andean meadows, high-altitude lakes, and rocky mountain passes. We will cross the highest pass of the trek, Palomani Pass (5,200 meters), offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and valleys.

After crossing the pass, we will begin our descent towards our campsite at Ananta, located at an altitude of 4,200 meters. The descent will take approximately 3 hours, covering a distance of 6 kilometers.

Upon reaching our campsite, we will have lunch and spend the afternoon resting and enjoying the stunning scenery. Dinner will be served by our cook, and we will spend the night in our tents, ready for the final day of the trek.

Day 4Ananta - Rainbow Mountain - Cusco

We will wake up early at 5:00 am and have breakfast prepared by our cook. We will then begin our hike towards Ananta, a distance of approximately 9 kilometers and an elevation gain of 300 meters.

The trek will take us past beautiful alpine lakes and rugged mountain terrain, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. We will then reach Rainbow Mountain, a famous attraction known for its unique geological formations and vibrant colors.

After enjoying the views and taking plenty of photos, we will begin our descent towards the town of Cusco. The descent will take approximately 4 hours, covering a distance of 12 kilometers.

Upon reaching Cusco, we will say goodbye to our trekking team and transfer to our hotel. We will have the rest of the day free to rest and recover from the trek or explore the city of Cusco.
