Our tour will begin at 7:00 AM from Cusco. We’ll head to Ollantaytambo, located approximately 90 kilometers (56 miles) away, by private bus. By 9:30 AM, we will arrive and explore the Ollantaytambo Archaeological Park, renowned for its terraces, temples, and fortress.
Following our exploration of Ollantaytambo, we’ll board a train to Aguas Calientes, the town situated at the base of Machu Picchu. The train journey, lasting around 1.5 hours, will take us through the breathtaking landscapes of the Andes Mountains. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes at approximately 12:00 PM, we’ll check into our hotel. The remainder of the day will be free, offering time to either explore the town independently or relax in preparation for our visit to Machu Picchu the next day.
As evening approaches, we’ll gather for a briefing session with our tour guide. During this session, you’ll receive essential information about our visit to Machu Picchu and have the opportunity to ask any questions. Additionally, we’ll go over the timing and logistics for the following day. The first day of our tour will conclude here, and we’ll spend the night in Aguas Calientes.
We start the second day of the tour by taking the first bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu, which departs at 5:30 AM. We will reach Machu Picchu at around 6:00 AM and start our guided tour of the Inca citadel. We will explore the main attractions of Machu Picchu, including the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana, and the Temple of the Three Windows.
After the guided tour, we will have some free time to explore Machu Picchu on our own or hike the Inca Trail to the Sun Gate for a panoramic view of the citadel. We will need to have purchased Machu Picchu tickets that include the option to hike the Inca Trail in advance to do so. We will then take the bus back to Aguas Calientes for lunch.
After lunch, we take the train back to Ollantaytambo and then take a private bus back to Cusco. We will arrive in Cusco at around 8:00 PM, and the second day of the tour will come to an end. The entire tour will have lasted around 2 days, from 7:00 AM on the first day until 8:00 PM on the second day.
