We will commence the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu Tour at 7:30 AM from Cusco. Our first destination will be Pisac, located approximately 32 kilometers (20 miles) away. By around 8:30 AM, we will arrive and explore the Pisac Market, famous for its handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs. Additionally, we will visit the Pisac Archaeological Park, known for its terraces, temples, and advanced irrigation system, spending around 2 hours in this area.
Following our time in Pisac, we’ll drive to Urubamba for lunch, which is about 20 kilometers (12 miles) away. We’ll arrive at around 12:00 PM and enjoy a buffet lunch. Post-lunch, our journey continues to Ollantaytambo, approximately 15 kilometers (9 miles) from Urubamba. By around 2:00 PM, we’ll reach Ollantaytambo and visit its Archaeological Park, noted for its terraces, temples, and impressive fortress.
After our exploration of Ollantaytambo, we’ll board a train to Aguas Calientes, the town nestled at the base of Machu Picchu. The train ride will last about 1.5 hours, bringing us to Aguas Calientes around 4:30 PM, where we’ll check into our hotel. The evening will be free for independent exploration of the town. Later, we’ll meet with our tour guide to review the plan for the next day’s visit to Machu Picchu. The first day of the tour concludes here.
The second day of the tour will kick off with the first bus departure from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu at 5:30 AM. Arriving at Machu Picchu around 6:00 AM, we’ll begin our guided tour of the Inca citadel, covering the main attractions such as the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana, and the Temple of the Three Windows.
Following the guided tour, there will be some free time for personal exploration of Machu Picchu or the opportunity to hike the Inca Trail to the Sun Gate for a panoramic view of the citadel. If you wish to hike the Inca Trail, make sure you’ve purchased the appropriate Machu Picchu tickets in advance. Afterward, we’ll return to Aguas Calientes by bus for lunch, followed by a train ride back to Ollantaytambo. From there, a private bus will take us back to Cusco.
Our return to Cusco will be at approximately 8:00 PM, marking the end of the second day and concluding the tour. Overall, the entire journey will span about 2 days, starting at 7:30 AM on the first day and ending around 8:00 PM on the second day.
