On the first day of the Inca Jungle Trek, we will depart from Cusco at 6:00 am and head towards the Abra Malaga mountain pass, which is located at an altitude of 4,316 meters (14,160 feet) above sea level. From there, we will start our downhill bike ride, which will take us through different ecosystems, such as the high Andean plains and the cloud forest.
We will stop for lunch along the way and continue our bike ride until we reach Santa Maria, a small town located at an altitude of 1,575 meters (5,167 feet) above sea level. In Santa Maria, we will spend the night in a hostel and have dinner. During the bike ride, we will be accompanied by our guide and a support vehicle for our safety and convenience.
On the second day of the Inca Jungle Trek, we will have breakfast and begin our hike from Santa Maria to Santa Teresa. The trek will take us through a variety of landscapes, including the lush jungle and the high Andean mountains. We will hike along narrow paths, cross rivers, and pass through small villages along the way.
We will stop for lunch in a local restaurant and continue our trek to Santa Teresa, which is located at an altitude of 1,550 meters (5,085 feet) above sea level. In Santa Teresa, we will have the option to relax in the hot springs or go ziplining (additional cost). We will spend the night in a hostel and have dinner. The trek will be accompanied by our guide and a support vehicle will be available if needed.
After breakfast, we will start our trek towards Aguas Calientes, the town located at the base of Machu Picchu. We will first walk for around 2 hours until we reach the Hidroelectrica train station, where we will have lunch.
After lunch, we will continue our trek for around 3 hours along the railway tracks until we reach Aguas Calientes. Along the way, we will enjoy beautiful views of the mountains and the Vilcanota River. Once we reach Aguas Calientes, we will check into our accommodation and have dinner. We will rest early as we have an early morning start for our visit to Machu Picchu the next day.
We will wake up early in the morning and have breakfast before taking the bus up to Machu Picchu, where we will have a guided tour for around 2.5 hours. Our guide will explain the history and significance of the Inca citadel and show us the main sites, such as the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana, and the Temple of the Condor.
After the guided tour, we will have free time to explore Machu Picchu on our own, take photos, or hike to the Sun Gate for a panoramic view of the citadel. Later in the afternoon, we will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes and take the train back to Ollantaytambo, where our private transportation will be waiting for us to take us back to Cusco. We will arrive in Cusco in the evening and be dropped off at the Plaza Regocijo.
