The trek ends at Machu Picchu, one of the world’s most iconic archaeological sites. Hikers will have the chance to explore this ancient Inca citadel, marvel at its engineering and architectural feats. And soak in its historical and cultural significance. The Lares Trek to Machu Picchu 4 Days is an adventure of a lifetime, offering hikers a chance to disconnect from technology and immerse themselves in the natural and cultural wonders of the Andean region.
We will depart from Cusco at 5:30 am and drive for approximately 2 hours to reach the starting point of the Lares Trek in the village of Pumahuanca.
After a hearty breakfast prepared by our cook, we will begin our hike towards Puyoc, a gradual ascent that will take approximately 5 hours, covering a distance of 10 kilometers. We will pass through traditional Andean communities and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Along the way, we will stop for lunch at a scenic spot along the trail and have some time to rest and refuel. After lunch, we will continue hiking towards Puyoc, our campsite for the first night, located at an altitude of 4,000 meters.
Upon arriving at our campsite, we will have time to rest and acclimatize to the altitude. Dinner will be served, prepared by our cook, and we will spend the night in our tents, ready for the next day’s adventure.
We will wake up early at around 5:00 am and have breakfast prepared by our cook. We will then begin our hike towards Yanacocha Lake, located at an altitude of 4,500 meters. The trek will take us approximately 4 hours, covering a distance of 8 kilometers.
Along the way, we will enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, as well as passing through traditional Andean communities. We will also have the opportunity to see a variety of flora and fauna, including llamas and alpacas.
Upon reaching Yanacocha Lake, we will have some time to rest and take in the stunning scenery. We will then continue our trek towards the village of Cuncani, located at an altitude of 3,800 meters. The descent will take approximately 3 hours, covering a distance of 5 kilometers.
Upon reaching Cuncani, we will set up our campsite and have lunch prepared by our cook. We will have the afternoon to explore the village and interact with the friendly locals, learning about their traditions and way of life. Dinner will be served at our campsite, and we will spend the night in our tents, ready for the next day’s adventure.
We will wake up early in Cuncani Village, at an altitude of 3,900 meters, and have breakfast prepared by our cook. We will then begin our hike towards Lares Hot Springs, a distance of approximately 7 kilometers and an elevation drop of 900 meters.
The trek will take us through stunning mountain landscapes and traditional Andean communities, offering an opportunity to experience local culture. We will arrive at Lares Hot Springs in the late morning and have some time to relax and soak in the natural hot springs.
After enjoying the hot springs, we will have lunch prepared by our cook and take private transportation to Ollantaytambo train station. We will then take a train to Aguas Calientes, the town located at the foot of Machu Picchu.
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, we will check into our hotel and have some free time to explore the town or rest. We will have dinner at a local restaurant and prepare for our visit to Machu Picchu the next day.
We will wake up early at 5:00 am and have breakfast at our hotel in Aguas Calientes. We will then take the bus to Machu Picchu, which will take approximately 30 minutes.
Upon arrival at Machu Picchu, we will meet our guide and begin a 2-hour guided tour of the ancient Inca citadel. We will learn about the history, architecture, and cultural significance of this fascinating site, and have plenty of opportunities to take photos.
After the guided tour, we will have some free time to explore Machu Picchu on our own, hike to the Sun Gate, or climb the steep stairs to Huayna Picchu. We will then take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where we will have lunch before taking the train back to Ollantaytambo.
Upon arriving in Ollantaytambo, we will be transferred by private transportation back to Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon. The Lares Trek to Machu Picchu 4 Days will come to an end, leaving us with unforgettable memories of the natural and cultural wonders of the Andean region.
